There are always guys who are hyped (or overhyped) during the recruiting process, or perhaps there's a lot said about them when they start out but then they don't seem to make much of an impact. Others fly under the radar and not much is said about them at all. I'm wondering what we might see from some of these guys this fall:
Elijah Caldwell - lots of hype early on
Nick Elksnis - seemed to be a big pick-up at the time
Aaryn Parks - not much has been said
Jaron Willis - seemed to be a big transfer at the time
Gilber Edmund - never seemed to be great here but the move to FSU and back brought some added hype
Kelvin Hunter - true freshman who is a great athlete
Luke Doty - true team-first guy but he's got some talent if used properly

Why on earth are we already considering Kelvin Hunter, who has literally never played a college snap, as overhyped?

Willis played some last year, something was posted last week on him from the insiders saying hes working to build on last year and getting better.
Doty is talked about a lot and assume hes gonna keep working in his WR role.
Hunter was asked about this morning in Ask Tony and Tony said hes as advertised and could play meaningful snaps this year. Assume he will definitely help in special teams this year.
Edmund will definitely have a veteran role in the 2deep. Has been interviewed by media this preseason.
Caldwell, Elksnis, and Parks are all fighting for spots and have seen them mentioned sparingly in different updates and/or practice notes.

MCR, you hyped those dudes in your own head. Elksnis never has been and never will be a big time get. Neither was Willis. Nor Gilber.

I can see it on Willis since he was a 4 star coming off his freshman year, but yeah I have no idea who was hyping Elksnis.

Message board hype is never a great indicator of performance. Folks here read way too much into things.

Cladwell is fighting for a returner spot on kickoff. Him and Huggins-Bruce. Huggins-Bruce was on top of the list but we’ll see if he sticks.
Elksnis is a physical player but needs to stay healthy.
Parks is in the running for playing time. Saturday’s scrimmage was a big test to help sort out the depth chart. Coaches mixed in groups during the scrimmage.
Willis is a big part of special teams. He’s still learning to be a LB.
Edmund started to blossom here. He was moved around a bit in the beginning. Once he settled at DE he found his footing. Had a decent year before he left for FSU. Look for him if his leg is healthy to split some starting reps.
Hunter has a ways to go. He’s a good tackler, but his coverage skills needs work. He could get a lot of playing time on special teams. He’s a really good at defending the run. If his coverage improves…
Luke Doty is a WR. He’ll be in the starting group. He’s also fighting for a returner spot on kick off.

EVERY recruit is overhyped during the recruiting process. You may want to just list our entire roster.

I mean it was very good for us for depth. Outside of that, no one was expecting him to come in here and be all SEC.

Doty usually seems to be pretty stiff to me as a receiver. Has he improved that aspect of his game?

If Doty is a starter…my confidence level of Shane goes from 7 to 2.

Gilber Edmund is not overhyped, IMO. He was solid when he was here and that is all that seems to be expected of him now. And absolutely no one seems to be hyping Doty or Willis. I'm not sure that you're saying they are, MCR. But each of these guys seem to be players that will have roles on this team. None will likely be top 10 on the team in snaps played. But none will go without having some kind of impact on the team this year.

Well, that could depend on if we're 5 wide. And if we're rotating to keep guys fresh, we know he has good hands and can run.

Did you randomly pick this list? Dart board picks. Very odd group with a mix of very new to very old and everything in between. Some hyped, most not.

The dude has come through every time he gets an opportunity at wr. Not going to be number one by any stretch but he will get some touches.
